Gemma Tognini is the founder and director of gtmedia – strategic communications, established in July 2003. Gemma was born in Perth, and educated in Perth, Sondrio (Italy) and Perugia (Italy). She attended Curtin University of Technology where she completed her Bachelor’s Degree with a double major in Journalism and Politics. Gemma is the 2014 WA Telstra Businesswoman of the Year, awarded the most outstanding business owner in Western Australia. Gemma is a sought-after strategic advisor, media consultant, thought leader, broadcaster and writer. A noted authority in her field, Gemma’s commentary has appeared in the Australian Financial Review, the West Australian, the ABC and on commercial radio.
Prior to starting gtmedia, Gemma was an award-winning journalist with the Seven Network and prior to that, Macquarie Radio. Gemma has grown gtmedia with a focus on high-level relationships and high-end deliverables. The fruit of this approach is evident in the local, national and global footprint of clients, the lion’s share of which have come via referral.
Gemma is the advisor of choice for many of Australia’s leading organisations and is an established authority in building, growing and managing reputations. Gemma is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and sits on the board of Surf Life Saving WA and is the WA Vice Chair of the Communications Council of Australia, the peak industry body for advertising and corporate communication firms. She writes a fortnightly column for The West Australian and is has a weekly segment on commercial talkback radio. Gemma is also an enthusiastic, but not yet dangerous Muay Thai fighter. She’s a lover of music, politics and reading, and barracks for the mighty Collingwood Football Club.
